Tape In Hair Extensions

One hour can totally transform your hair!

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I do a lot of tape in extensions. My clients LOVE them. If you're looking for instant length and volume without spending a lot of time in the chair, you'll love them too. I use GL Tapes by Great Lengths. They are high quality, easy to apply and removal, and come in a gorgeous color palette!

Tape in extensions are lightweight and gentle.

Tape in hair extensions are a popular service because they offer an express application. They require less time in the chair initially but require maintenance (removal and re-application of the hair) at regular intervals to keep them looking fresh. Not all tape in extensions are the same - the quality of the hair and the adhesive make a huge difference. And when applied by a professional, tape in extensions are perfectly safe and won't damage your hair. 

The Adhesive

The adhesive plays a big role in safety. When it comes to tape ins, we are picky! We're particular about the hair itself of course, but also the adhesive! A medical grade adhesive will provide a durable, watertight seal without being gummy or sticky, so that they're easy to apply and remove in-salon. Best of all, they'll be comfortable to wear and easy to maintain at home.

Application & Removal

I can install a full head of tape in hair extensions in about an hour. After I get your new extensions in place, I'll trim your hair so that they blend in perfectly and then style your hair for a perfect finish. Your extensions will need to be removed and repositioned every 6-8 weeks. I'll gently dissolve the adhesive with a special solution, remove each weft and reposition them closer to the scalp. Never attempt to pull out or comb out your tape in hair extensions at home.

Brands We Use:

When it comes to tape ins, we are picky! We're particular about the hair itself of course, but also the adhesive! We work with HotHeads and GL Tapes by Great Lengths. Both are made from 100% Remy Indian Temple hair and come in a variety of pre-colored shades and lengths. The adhesive is gentle and long lasting without being sticky! That means these extensions will be easy for us to apply, remove and maintain. With proper care, each application lasts 6 to 8 weeks and allows for up to 3 re-applications for a total of 5 to 6 months of wear.

To Color or Not to Color?

Although these extensions are made from human hair, they cannot handle extreme lightening so we prefer to color match your natural hair as a good starting point, then add highlights or all over color from there.

Pre-colored Hair Shades

I can create any look with pre-colored hair extensions, mixing and matching dozens of colors. In fact, weaving in rooted and color melt shades is my secret to better blending to create a versatile and natural look. And working with Great Lengths, I have a 70+ options for each line!

Can I custom color these hair extensions?  Yes. Our tape in extensions are made with human hair which can be colored. However, I prefer to only deepen the color, not highlight or use any lightener, in order to preserve their wear time. But with so many pre-colored options, I probably don't need to custom color your hair extensions.

How long will tape in extensions last?

With proper care, your tape in extensions will last up to 6 months. I will send you home with care instructions so that you can maintain them at home. Because these hair extensions are attached, versus a temporary clip in style, it will be important to keep your hair moisturized and tangle free.

How much do tape in extensions cost?

The cost will depend on how much hair you require, the brand I use, the length and density. It's impossible to quote an amount as the cost truly varies from person to person but I can tell you that tape in extensions are less expensive than a hand tied or fusion application because of the express application time. This will give you an idea of where tape in extensions fall on the cost spectrum as compare to other types.

We get a lot of private messages asking how much do hair extensions cost?  As you can see in our extensions guide, there are several different types and brands of hair extensions to choose from.  Although we can't guess at a cost without seeing and talking to you first, this much we can tell you. The cost will depend on which type and brand of extensions we use, how much hair we use, if we need to custom color them before we  install, and if we need to adjust or highlight your base color before we install. It's impossible to ballpark an amount but hopefully this will give you an idea of how much hair extensions cost relative to each other.

How much maintenance do hair extensions require?

When you leave the salon, I'll give you instructions on how to care for your hair extensions in between appointments. The specific care and maintenance will vary depending on the type of hair extensions, but regardless of what type of bonds you have, you'll need to spend a little extra time each day to keep your extensions looking beautiful. I wear hair extensions all the time and if you ask me, the few minutes a day for a little extra care is well worth it.

Can you get hair extensions with short or thin hair?

Hair extensions are great for "growing out" a short cut, adding length to hair that's hard to grow past a certain point, or adding back volume to the top of the head or around the face.  As long as your own hair is at least 3-4 inches long and in good condition, you can get hair extensions.

Can you get hair color and highlights with extensions in?

Just to be clear, quality human hair extensions can be colored, but there are limitations. Synthetic extensions can't be dyed or lightened. Even with human hair extensions, we want to be as gentle as possible with your attachments. With your extensions in, we can do a root touch up or refresh your highlights as new growth comes in. We would be very careful to only color your natural hair, not the extensions. We can even do an all-over color as long as that color is within a few shades.  It's not advisable to do heavy lightening or drastic color changes with your extensions in.

Do you cut hair extensions?

Yes, it is absolutely necessary to cut the hair extensions once they are installed in your hair.  This is what we call a "blended cut" and it is essential to trim the ends of the extensions, shape the perimeter of the style and add any necessary layers. It's included with the cost of my service. Without a blended haircut, your extensions won't look natural.

How long will it take to install my hair extensions?

Well, it depends on what method we are using and if we're performing a hair color service along with the installation. Without any hair color, we can apply tape in hair extensions in an hour and a half. Installing the hair takes about 20 minutes, the rest of the time is for washing, drying, cutting and styling!  Fusion hair extensions, because they are a highly customized strand-by-strand application, are an all day job! We take our time on every bond ensuring it’s not too tight or large for the hair it’s being attached to, providing you with the most comfortable and damage free extension experience for months to come! The results are well worth the time spent in that chair! ⠀
