how much do hair extensions cost

"How Much Do Hair Extensions, Toppers, Halos, and Wigs Cost in Virginia Beach?"

Understanding which factors influence the price of your new extensions.

This is by far the most frequent question we get about hair extensions. And it's impossible to answer without specific details.  Just to assure you that we're not dodging the question when we say "it depends," here is our thought process as we prepare a hair extensions quotation for our clients.

Here it goes...

We get it.  You're excited about your hair extensions and a little anxious about how much it's going to cost. That's why we ask lots of questions during your free hair extensions consultation. Your answers will help us give you a better indication of the cost. Before we even get into the color options and style ideas, we have to determine the best application method for you. So let's start there.

Which types of hair extensions will work for you? Which ones can we eliminate?

Our recommendation will depend on how we answer these questions.

What do you want to achieve?

Maybe your goal is to add length because you have trouble growing your hair long. Or perhaps your primary concern is fullness or camouflage for thinning areas. And then there's the best of both worlds - you want length and volume.  We have to consider what you want in order to navigate through the available options.

Do you have baby fine hair?

During your consultation, we'll be able to assess your natural hair's texture. If you have really fine hair, it could make certain types of hair extensions a challenge. If your fine hair falls into the super silky category, then for practical reasons we might recommend avoiding hand tied wefts or fusions because the bonds may slip out of place.

Is your hair above the shoulder?

By seeing you in person, we can see how short your natural hair is and assess any interior layering that would affect the finished result. Don't worry, you can still wear hair extensions if you have short or hair with lots of layers, but it may change my recommendation. With tape ins and fusions, we can typically work with hair a short as 3-4 inches.

NEW: If you're in a full-head hair regrowth phase, we have a new hair extensions options for you from ChemoGirls, extensions specifically designed to be applied to new baby hairs.

What's your style?

We need to understand more about your lifestyle and your hairstyle! Do you wash your hair frequently, swim or workout on a regular basis? It's important that we know. Do you like to wear your hair in a high ponytail? Knowing how you typically wear your hair, and knowing the pros and cons of each attachment method, we can better assure you'll be happy with the results.

What about color?

Are you happy with your base color? We can add highlights and lowlights, even pops of fashion color,  by mixing and matching shades from within the palette of available colors. In fact, there are so many pre-colored options, most people don't need an additional color service. But if you are planning a drastic color change, you may need a color service on your natural hair before your extensions go in. Or, if you want colors other than what's available in the pre-colored selections, we can custom color your extensions before putting them in. A base color change or custom color for your extensions will add to the price.

Not Every Client Needs Traditional Hair Extensions

Many people visit us assuming they need hair extensions when what they really need is added volume, coverage, or a solution for thinning hair.

Depending on your goals, we may recommend:

Hair Toppers

Hair toppers are designed to add coverage and density where you need it most. They can be a great option for women experiencing thinning at the crown, widening part lines, or reduced density through the top of the head.

Toppers are available in different sizes, densities, lengths, and hair types, all of which affect pricing.

Custom Halo Extensions

A halo is a removable hair piece that sits comfortably on your head using an invisible wire. Unlike many ready-made halos, we can custom make a halo specifically for your hair using either premium extension hair or even your existing weft extensions.

Custom halos are often less expensive than a full installed extension system and require very little ongoing maintenance.

Wigs

For clients experiencing significant hair loss from medical treatments, alopecia, or other causes, a wig may provide the most complete solution.

We offer professional wig consultations, fitting, customization, and styling services. Pricing varies dramatically based on whether the wig is synthetic, heat-friendly synthetic, human hair, or a premium luxury wig.

Hair Loss & Regrowth Solutions

If you're currently experiencing hair loss or are in the regrowth phase after chemotherapy, we may recommend a combination of solutions including wigs, toppers, halos, or specialized extension systems designed specifically for new hair growth.

Our goal is to recommend the option that best fits your current stage of hair growth, lifestyle, and budget.

Available Hair Extensions Options

Knowing which type of hair extension is just part of the equation. Next we have to calculate what we need to order: the type of hair, the length, the color, the band sizes, and the density. Here is an idea of the options that impact the pricing. As you can see, options vary by method and by brand, making the cost question impossible to answer without specifics. We know - it's enough to make your head spin! But don't worry, we'll go over all of this with you, we just want to be super transparent about what drives the cost of hair extensions.

Frequently Asked Cost Questions

How much do hair extensions cost?

«

We get a lot of private messages asking how much do hair extensions cost?  As you can see in our extensions guide, there are several different types and brands of hair extensions to choose from.  Although we can't guess at a cost without seeing and talking to you first, this much we can tell you. The cost will depend on which type and brand of extensions we use, how much hair we use, if we need to custom color them before we  install, and if we need to adjust or highlight your base color before we install. It's impossible to ballpark an amount but hopefully this will give you an idea of how much hair extensions cost relative to each other.

How does the cost of Siren Signature Hair Extensions compare to other premium brands?

«

The investment will vary based on the method, length, and amount of hair needed to achieve your desired result.

In general:

  • Keratin bond extensions (K-tips) are priced below Great Lengths while still offering high-end quality and performance.
  • Siren Seamless Extensions (genius wefts) are comparable to other premium weft options on the market.

Pricing isn’t just about the hair itself. It also reflects the overall time required to achieve the result.

Because Siren Signature Hair is designed to last longer and maintain its quality over time, many clients find it offers strong value when compared to lower-cost options that need to be replaced more frequently.

A consultation allows us to give you a clear, personalized quote based on your goals.

How much do you charge for a custom halo?

«

The cost of a custom halo depends on whether you are supplying the hair or purchasing extension hair through our salon.

If you already own weft extensions that are in good condition, we may be able to convert them into a custom halo. In most cases, the cost to handcraft a halo using your existing hair starts around $150, depending on the density and amount of customization required.

If we are providing the hair, the total investment will depend on the length, density, color, and type of extension hair selected. In addition to the cost of the hair itself, a custom halo creation fee starting at $150 will apply.

We recommend scheduling a consultation so we can evaluate your hair, discuss your goals, and provide an exact quote.

How much does a hair topper cost?

«

The cost of a hair topper can vary depending on the size of the topper, the type and quality of hair, the length, density, color, and whether customization is needed.

Some clients need a small topper for added volume or to conceal mild thinning along the part line, while others require a larger piece that provides more coverage. Because every situation is different, there is no one-size-fits-all price.

During your consultation, we'll evaluate your hair, discuss your goals, and recommend the options that best fit your needs and budget. We offer a variety of solutions, from ready-to-wear toppers to premium custom options, and we'll provide a detailed quote before moving forward.

If you're experiencing hair loss or thinning and aren't sure whether a topper, halo, wig, or another solution is the best fit, we're happy to guide you through the options during a private consultation.

How much does a wig cost?

«

Wig pricing can vary widely depending on the type of hair, cap construction, length, density, and level of customization required.

Synthetic wigs are typically the most affordable option, while human hair wigs offer the most natural appearance and styling versatility. Premium human hair wigs and custom-made pieces are a larger investment but can provide exceptional comfort, realism, and longevity.

At Siren Extension Studio, we work with several wig options and can help you compare styles, materials, and price points based on your needs and budget. Whether you're looking for a wig due to hair loss, medical treatment, thinning hair, or simply want a new look, we'll help you find the right solution.

The best way to receive accurate pricing is through a private consultation, where we can discuss your goals, take measurements if needed, and recommend the options that are the best fit for you.
